PREPARING FOR AN INTERVIEW WITH A FOUNDER RATHER THAN HIRING MANAGER...

When helping candidates prepare for interviews I often get asked how to approach an interview with a Founder/Co-founder.

Will it be different from interviewing with a hiring manager from a larger business?

Here are a few that have come up recently that may help give you an edge...

  • Passion is key, talk about what gets you excited and demonstrate your passion for their products and the sector

  • Understand the company's mission - Reference it and talk about you're drawn to help them achieve it

  • Find problems, pitch solutions - e.g. new legislation that you're aware of and how you have overcome these issues in the past

  • Demonstrate a growth mindset - Try to demonstrate that you're comfortable operating outside your comfort zone and show that you are capable of growing with the business and taking on additional responsibility

Doing your research is even more important and you will need to try their products and understand the market inside out.
